Have you ever wondered what those strangely claw-like shaped objects some guitarists use on their guitars are? Well, you are not the first, and certainly not the last. To put it shortly, they are called capos. And what they do, basically, is raise the pitch of the strings by shortening their length. As simple as that. To put on a capo, all you have to is clamp the device on any of the frets that you want. They are a very useful tool, and they are cheap! Their prices do vary, depending on the type, quality, and shape of the capo. Don’t worry, though. The prices rarely go over 20 dollars, unless it’s made of gold or something. In this post, I’m going to suggest some of the top guitar capos for you!

Kyser KG6B 6 String Capo
A Kyser Quick-Change capo is expertly engineered and built to last. It is reliable and does just what it is designed to do – clearly raise the pitch of the 6-string acoustic guitar so you can play in a different key without re-tuning or changing fingering. Seasoned professionals and beginning players alike appreciate how the Kyser Quick-
Change capo helps them transpose their guitar in seconds, with only one hand. The beauty of the Kyser Quick-Change capo is in its simplicity. Kyser pioneered this design and although often imitated, a Kyser is never equaled. There is no substitute for a genuine Kyser Quick-Change capo. Made by hand in Texas, USA. Guaranteed for life.
Did I mention that this capo is Amazon’s Choice? Yes, that’s right! I you are still not convinced, take a look at what some verified buyers thought of the capo:
Bought this for my son, and he seems to love it. We’re playing more songs requiring a capo, so we’ll see how it holds up. But I bought based on other reviews, and so far, so good. It took a little time to get used to the application and removal (backwards from about every capo I’ve seen up until now), but it was almost no time before he was working it like he was born with one. Definitely recommend.
It may not be the perfect capo, but for playing live it will never let you down. I like capos that offer some fine-tune control while playing at home to get the best tone. This isn’t adjustable.
However, when playing live, you need to know the capo will work without buzzing or having dead strings. This one fills that bill. Clamp it and play with confidence. It also stays out of my way with the low profile over the fret board. No risk of damaging the guitar, either. There may be capos that have the potential to sound better but this one is reliable and fast, which means a lot in a live setting.

And here are some of Amazon’s verified customers’ reviews:
–Wow! These are great capos. They work fantastic. Perfect fit on your guitar neck and no string buzz. The colors are awesome too. I got the gold and red. Note that the red in the picture looks more red maroon colored but the actual capo is a brighter red. Still pretty though. Very pretty with the darker woods. I highly recommend these. I am going to buy another pair of them!
–These are nice capos for six string guitar or other singley strung instruments. Well made, nice design, and the price is right. I like them a lot. Buy one for every guitar in your closet.
It does NOT however work for my 12 string guitar. The durometer rating or hardness of the rubber face is too hard to compress the octave strings on the twelve. When the capo is installed on the twelve, some of the octave strings buzz out.
This does not happen with the Kyser capo, the rubber is slightly less hard and it does compress enough to reliably capo the octave strings on the twelve, so for now, I will have to stick with the Kyser capo on the 12 string guitar.
These are wonderful capos for my six string guitars!
Had it worked on the 12 string guitar I would have given it five stars easily.

Shubb Deluxe Series GC-30 (S1) Guitar Capo
This Subb Deluxe right here is a bit more unique, you can say, than its regular counterparts. What’s different about this capo is that you can adjust the pressure this capo applies on the strings, which is great! It works equally well on both acoustic and electric guitars. This brief description from Amazon elaborates further on what makes this capo special:
- Distinctive capo design that has been loved and trusted by musicians for over 35 years
- Unique among adjustable capos, with Shubb you can “set it and forget it”- no need to reset the pressure with each use
- Locking and removing is as simple as flipping the lever
- Custom-made rubber works just like a fingertip and effortlessly keeps your guitar in tune
Here are the reviews:
–Most of the time, I look at 5 stars as something that has 0 things to complain about. I’m breaking my rule here. I’ll explain. This capo is not good for quick change, but when do you need to change a capo so quickly that 20 seconds matter? Rarely if ever.
The Kyser and Dunlop are quality capos, but I spend more time getting them set just right so I’m not more sharp than the rest of the group, or buzzing like crazy. I just don’t think the speed disadvantage was worth losing a star, since the intonation ability here is incredible. You can use this on so many neck shapes and have zero issues. I realize the kyser is what hangs in the stores for all to admire, but this is for true tone.
–I’ve been playing guitar for many years and I have used many capos. This is definitely the best. I’ve used Kyser, Dunlop, Planet Waves, G7th, and other lesser known brands. This Shubb works really well. No more out of tune like so many of the others. I love the adjustable tension which is so key to staying in tune. Many of them have a set spring tension which you cannot control which ends up knocking the tuning out.
With this one you can adjust it exactly where it needs to be for the right tension. No, you can’t store on the head stock but it’s so small that it’s no problem to just stick it in your pocket. If you do need to slide it to a different fret that is easily done with one hand. I will say that I’ve been very happy with my G7th too but I would have to give the edge to the Shubb from a price standpoint. It is about half the price of the G7th and I honestly like the feel of it a bit better.

Donner DC-2 One Handed Trigger Guitar Capo
I’m going to end this list off with a pretty cool one: the Donner DC-2 Capo. Personally, I have never tried this capo before. However, I have seen a prominent guitar player, whose playing I very much admire, on YouTube use this brand. Of course, this doesn’t mean that this capo automatically becomes the best in the world. It’s more of a personal preference. Anyhow, here’s a quick description of the product:
Donner DC-2 Capo is for really fast changes on stage. Easily applied and adjusted with one hand, it is spring-loaded design is equally at home in guitars, and can be conveniently parked on the head stock when not in use. Simple and easy to use, the guitar stays in tune with a great intonation.
1. Made of alloy, strong and durable.
2. Elegant, concise and curved shape design, fits Guitar and other musical instruments well, has excellent hand feeling.
3. Quality steel spring with internal memory that stands wear and tear.
4. Quality silicon pad conforms to fingerboard and frets can ensure good sound and avoid scratching.
5. Excellent structure on the basis of mechanics theory design, easy to open, but can clamp firmly and easy to stay in tune.
6. Weight: 60g.

And here are the reviews:
–I bought this capo based on reviews. Reviewers don’t seem to comment on the biggest thing the capo is supposed to do for you. Change the tune of the strings correctly. This capo is easy to use, it’s cheap and seem to be pretty well-made. The problem is that the spring has too much tension and makes all of my guitars go sharp when using it.
You are supposed to tune using open strings then apply the capo. Doing that, this thing won’t work. I bought a better (and more expensive) adjustable capo and tuning is perfect with proper tension adjustment.
–This capo made playing much more enjoyable. My previous capo would require very careful placement to prevent string buzz and would often take a couple of tries. Now I just pop this one on and it almost always works perfect. I have to really place it awkwardly to create string buzz. The curve fits the neck on my Fender Hellcat perfect, and the handle placement is more convenient that the older style that stick out over the fret board. I couldn’t like it anymore, it’s great.
